About
Camping is fun. We spend time outdoors getting fresh air and enjoying nature, and we get a chance to sleep in the open air or in a tent. There is a lot of equipment to take along when we go camping, things like clothing, backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, cooking utensils, and food and drink of course. Which is why campervans have become popular, you can sleep in a car instead of a tent, and it is much easier to carry all that stuff in a car than on your back. A campervan is a car or van with its interior converted for camping, small changes are also allowed to the car or van exterior.
Your task
Design a car or van that has been converted into a campervan for your family to go on camping holidays. Your campervan should make your life easy when out camping, it must allow for you to sleep, to prepare and have your meals, it must have storage and other things that your family will need when you go on camping holidays. Think about the materials that you should use to convert the interior of a car or van. Construct a small-scale model of your campervan to show it. You may modify a toy or model car or van to build your model for this project. Work on this project in a small team with a group of your classmates.
The design thinking stages
Follow the five design thinking stages to ensure that you think of everything and do everything necessary in order to succeed in your design project. First, you must UNDERSTAND the design topic and the needs of the users. With that understanding, you can DECIDE what is important to your design solution and what is not so important. Then you CREATE to come up with ideas and improve them. Then you BUILD your chosen design idea in a physical form and improve it through trial-and-error. Finally, you TEST your built design idea to get the opinions of users. Use the methods from the Design Thinking for Schools website as you follow the design thinking stages.
