About
Dot Voting is a way for a group of designers to find their best ideas. You can do dot voting after you have done Idea Storming, Idea Sketchathon, or any time that you need to choose the best ideas while designing.
Figure: Vote for the best design ideas by using coloured dots.
What you need
- A group of about three to five young designers to work together.
- A quiet place to work, with tables and chairs, or a chalkboard or whiteboard or pinboard for the sketches.
- Papers and pens or pencils.
- About an hour to do it properly.
How to do it
- Work on one person’s design topic at a time.
- Place the sheets of papers with sketches somewhere visible.
- Place them on a table, or tape or pin the sketches to the whiteboard, or a pinboard.
- The designer explains his or her sketches.
- Everyone votes for the best ideas.
- Each person makes a mark with a pen or pencil or adds a colour dot sticker to the best 3 or 5 ideas.
- Add up the votes to find the best ideas.
