About

As you draw a Mind Map (IV) in the EMPATHISE stage to explore your understanding of the design topic, so you will have many questions. Note down those questions on a dedicated page in your notepad, title that page, ‘Research Questions.’ Use that list of questions to guide your Desk Research (IV) as you search for the answers.

What you need

  • A4 notepad and pen.
  • A computer that is connected to the internet.
  • Your mind map of the EMPATHISE stage.

Method

  • Using your A4 notepad, write down the heading ‘Research Questions’ at the top of a page.
  • List each of the questions that you have from the mind map, and number them.
  • You may also note down ideas or tasks for the EMPATHISE stage.
    • For example, there may be a place you would like to visit, or an event about your design topic that you would like to attend. Perhaps you are designing a Home Robot and you would like to attend a Robotics Trade Show in your city for your research.
  • As you find the answers to your questions, note them down in the following pages of your notepad.
    • If you find information in a book or on the internet, you may attach photocopies or printouts to the same pages.
  • As you work on the EMPATHISE stage, and you come up with more questions or tasks, you may add those to the list.
