About
A tent is a shelter made of natural or synthetic fabric. Various kinds of tents have been used by humans since ancient times. Camping tents come in many shapes and sizes depending on how they will be used. Tents are designed according to their sizes, the climatic conditions they must withstand, weight limitations, and so forth. Tents for camping get their structure from rigid, or flexible poles, or sometimes they use inflatable air beams.
Your task
Design a tent for any kind of camping of your choice, for example, it may be for hiking, or mountaineering, or bike packing, and so forth. Your tent must accommodate one person or more of any age group, with enough space for them to lie comfortably. Build a full-size working model to test your tent. Work on this project in a small team with a group of your classmates.
The design thinking stages
Follow the five design thinking stages to ensure that you think of everything and do everything necessary in order to succeed in your design project. First, you must UNDERSTAND the design topic and the needs of the users. With that understanding, you can DECIDE what is important to your design solution and what is not so important. Then you CREATE to come up with ideas and improve them. Then you BUILD your chosen design idea in a physical form and improve it through trial-and-error. Finally, you TEST your built design idea to get the opinions of users. Use the methods from the Design Thinking for Schools website as you follow the design thinking stages.
